LOTRO operates on a different scale (as do most MMOs, I gather), where characters range from levels 1-50. However, this is largely just a numbers game.
Level 1 -- The giant mosquito hits you for 2 points of damage, out of your 10 hit points.
Level 20 -- The giant mosquito hits you for 40 points of damage, out of your 200 hit points.
Level 40 -- The giant mosquito hits you for 80 points of damage, out of your 400 hit points.
In other words, it's really the same creature doing the same damage -- but you couldn't have survived it earlier. On the other hand, those giant mosquitoes who kicked your butt back in the Shire can't really touch you now that you're high enough level to go to the Trollshaws.
