Yay for 60s samba music. Sadly, while my rusty Spanish is enough to translate the title, I can't make out the lyrics well enough to even try to say what they mean.
I have most of the Brasil '66 albums, although my copy of Ye-Me-Le is currently inaccessable until I get my open-reel deck fixed or replaced. :( Fortunately, I have the other five on vinyl.
(Damn Sony electronics... even back in the 70s, they loved packing their equipment with custom single-source components that weren't used on any other model and you just can't get anywhere nowadays.)
Well... yes and no. :) As with most such performances from 60s and 70s television, the singers and musicians are just lip-synching to the studio recording, not doing a live performance. (It's painfully obvious if you watch Mendes' hands; notice often he's completely out of sync with the actual piano notes?) So, the powerful vocals are in part due to Lani Hall and Janis Hansen being double-tracked in the studio mix.
Which isn't to say they aren't still fine singers, especially considering that they had to learn all those lines phonetically since neither Hall nor Hansen spoke a word of Portuguese. :)
Nice! I've got a really snappy version of that, which I literally grew up on, since my dad gave me the record when I was a kidlet... will see if I can dig it up some time :}

I love alot of Jobim and Mendez stuff (Mendez did cover alot of Jobim's stuff)
