I have not read the new, badly-translated-from-Russian LJ user agreement that people have been talking about it, but LJ would not let me stay logged in unless I agreed to it.

I don't know how bad it is, but at this stage, I don't want to have anything to do with it. So I was auto-logged out, and that's pretty much it, I guess.

So long, LJ. I'll miss the you of 10-15 years ago.

I left LJ a while ago so I'd not heard about this recent user agreement. What are people saying about it?

Well, the reason I transferred all my LJ stuff to DW a few months back was because of the transfer of the servers to Russian soil where more controls could, theoretically, be placed on them by the Russian government. If the posts are being censored/filtered then I'm guessing I did the right thing.

Such thought-policing shenanigans were to be expected once the servers were moved to Russia.

It stops/bans "political solicitations" and makes it so that even if you're not a Russian user (so if you have to read it in English for example), you have to follow the Russian TOS, so that the Russian text prevails over the English version, even if any differences between the two are discovered.

So basically yes, due to the "for the Purpose of Protecting Children from Information Advocating for a Denial of Traditional Family Values" (the russian anti-gay law) any posting that promotes "homonormative" behavior would be breaking the TOS of LiveJournal.

and i would imagine that they are tracking you (of course, technically so is the US government now)

I had not realized until today that LJ was auto-logging users out unless they gave in and signed the TOS. I manage to log in each time and I think Javascript is key here. I don't trust JS, and especially on LJ. I have an ad-blocker, but I go the extra distance and turn off JavaScript unless it's essential (such as using YouTube). So try logging into LJ with your Javascript turned off. You still won't be allowed to post, but you can comment and send PM's.

Just finished moving all my LJ entries over to DW, and went through and deleted all my LJ entries. I've left a single pinned message, but that will go when I delete my account in about a month.

See? This is why I was asking about the Twitter to Dreamwidth crossposter. It was the only way I saw fit to READ Twitter at times; could barely STAND the site because of the mandatory 140-characters-or-less policy. I don't wanna have to sign up for that as I consider its looks trivial... at least compared to FB, which I barely use.
