I remember reading somewhere that Genghis Khan is an ancestor to some truly scary number of people, like 1/8 of all the people in Asia alive today ... but I don't remember the source. Still, it shows how fast male genetic lines tend to die off (the common male ancestor we all share is only something like 90,000 years back).
