Our Friend, Spanky the Wonder Scale
Well, folks, I'm afraid Spanky has lost all touch with reality; I don't know if it's the battery or the scale, but this morning Spanky said "280.5, 42%." (Last week he said "264.5, 38%." Wow, that's quite a fluctuation!)
However, while I was at my chiropractor last week, I had him to a caliper-measure bodyfat percentage test. He came up with 32%, which is way lower than anything Spanky's ever said. It's still not within the 11% - 17% that I'm supposed to be shooting for, but I'll take it nonetheless!
Had my second major workout on the Bowflex this morning ... mm-mmm good. :) It's deceptively easy to do, and works you harder than you think. Many of the exercises which I felt the least while I was doing them, the muscles are the sorest now! Particularly my triceps and lats are now sorta wondering what hit 'em.
I also had something of a minor milestone today, which takes a little explaining...
"Pumped:" Competitive bodybuilders, when going to perform, do a rapid mini-workout with extra-heavy weights just before they're gonna do their thing. This causes blood to flow to their muscles, causing the muscles to swell up and get that "popping out" definition and bulging veins one associates with Ah-nold or the Incredible Hulk. ;) This is what "being pumped" actually refers to, as in your muscles are pumped full of blood.
Today, after working out on the Bowflex, was the first time that there was a visible difference in the "pumped" me versus, um, the "un-pumped." Some of those developing muscles are starting to peek out from under the flab, and as my shoulders and lats continue to grow while my waist continues to reduce, I'm gradually getting that "V" shape starting to happen.
I'm likin' this. :)
By the way, if you read this far, I am impressed. I don't think I could stand hearing somebody go on about this stuff!
