I volunteered to do a panel about "penciling" at Further Confusion, as I did last year and at various other cons. Today, I noticed this description on the schedule:

Pencils - Techniques to use with pencils and graphite. How to choose proper pencil types for each page of a piece of art, and what types of papers work best.

Um ... I hope that's not supposed to be me, because I don't have a clue about any of that stuff. In my lexicon, "penciling" is what you do to lay down the foundations of an image before you go back over it in ink. As for using charcoals or various-hardness pencils as a medium, I don't have anything more than just the basics you could learn in 10 minutes by looking at an art instruction book. My sketches are all done with a 0.7 mechanical pencil!

I've sent a note to the events track e-mail box, but the con program has already gone to the printer. Erf.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Seems to me a lot of the people are specifically there to see you, and they'll happily learn whatever you wanna teach.

If it's an hour-long panel, do about 20-25 minutes and then take questions from the audience. It doesn't have to fall completely on you to fill the whole time.

Well, that may be true ... but I'd still feel bad if they came for one panel and got another.
