But ... Why Penguins?

Well, Firefly made enough of an impression on me to make me have a bizarre dream about it. In this particular dream, the ship was stopped at some space station and had taken on as cargo a load of penguins.

(Why penguins? Your guess is as good as mine.)

But that's not the weird part. The weird part is that one of the penguins was, totally at random, 6'5" tall and wearing white overalls. This caused the crew no small amount of consternation. At first, they thought it was a person in a fursuit trying to smuggle themselves from one world to another in the guise of a penguin. Preacher Book volunteered to step forward and examine the overall-wearing aberration and came to the conclusion that, yes, he was a perfectly ordinary (albeit preternaturally large and unusually dressed) penguin.

They then went about their preparations for making stationfall; as they prepared to step out, Violent Security Guy put one arm around Mystical Prostitute and the other arm around the giant penguin, and said, "Check it out, a bird on each arm!"

I dream in British slang. ¬.¬

I'm a weird guy.

I think you just decided the picture needed a "formal" touch.

Its happened to me more than once where it seems an entire dream was staged just for the punch line.

It's said that teh empty space in your brain is occupied by penguins. So perhaps that was you seeing empty space being shuttled around?

I think there is more to this...anytime I have not had enough sleep I start talking about penguins. Mostly, I talk about how they won't stop following me. I have also seen penguins used on television when someone is either stoned or just having weird visions.

Could it be that they have an ajenda? hmm...

Oh, by the way...I found your "character names" very funny.

Good stuff.

Violent Security Guy -- I mean "Jayne" -- is the proof of my thesis that Firefly is a Traveller RPG.

Every gaming group has the Violent Guy With Lots Of Guns Who Gets The Party Into Trouble, Does Stupid Shit And Even Tries to Screw Them Behind Their Backs.

And no matter what he does, they keep him around because he's a Player Character.

Ok, the convoluted answer to penguins: Firefly was writtne by Josh Whedon, aka Wesley Cruser. The thing is, he's a big geek in real life. A linux geek at that, cruises slastdot and everything. Subconciously you knew this, and in your dream that translates in to penguins, the mascot of linux. And that's not even six degrees! Give me another one!

Pengi, Pengi! You dream of penguins because deep down you realize just how cool there are.... either that or you've watched way to much CC Sakura.

Best kind of slang to dream in.

Why penguins?

The ducks were already booked for another dream that night.

Thanks, Gneech. Now you've got me playing British programmes in my head.

"What's that on the telly?"
"I think it's a penguin."
"No, I mean the programme!"

You say that like you just figured out you're wierd. Didn't you know it's a prerequisite to being my friend?

Have the best

Well maybe it's a cross over dream between FireFly and Madagascar. Better make sure the ship is locked down when you make station fall. You know how those penguins are about escaping.

In British slang, "bird" = "woman." Generally a young woman, but not necessarily so.

[livejournal.com profile] lythandra adds: "Sorta the way we use 'chick.'"

"Nothing here that's half as good as the penguins on TV..." -Jazz Butcher

What is the deal with penguins on TV in Brit culture, anyway?

I'm not sure if that's wierder than waking up composing Superhero-themed Haikus or not.

Certainly, more elaborate. ;)
