Koyaanisqatsi

I would like to add these corollaries to the "Hang up and drive!" bumper sticker:

Hang up and park.
Hang up and walk.
Hang up and ride the elevator.
Hang up and order your latté.
Just hang up.

Hang up so you don't walk into me then step on my foot because texting is more important than looking where you're going! (Bromley town centre, yesterday)

That's really bad!

Sometimes I wonder if cellphones are actually some sort of weird parasites that latch onto the human ear.

Like the bluetooth earpieces that some people never take off?

Seen the Cyberman episode of the new Dr Who yet?

[identity profile] laurie-robey.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we saw the first part this past Friday, and the second part will come on this Friday. I was thinking that the writer must've been inspired by the bluetooth earpieces.

The earpieces are the parasite's undeveloped young, but yeah. Either that or people love imitating Uhura.

Hang up and don't &%$^#$@ stop dead in the middle of the highway - when you obviously missed the left turn lane you *%^&$# had to be in!

[identity profile] laurie-robey.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Regardless of the cell phone issue, which I'm sure doesn't help, I've never understood he people who don't get the whole "don't block traffic" thing. If you miss a turn, keep going and turn around to come back to your turn. Is that too difficult to grasp?

[identity profile] camstone.livejournal.com 2006-10-30 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It must be.

I dealt with that this morning on the way to work. Person is in the center lane... left and right turn lanes clearly marked... and they just start slowing down. There are nine cars in each lane, waiting for traffic to clear. It's a green light. Then, the car in front of me comes to a slow crawl. Less than 5mph. I tap the horn lightly (the speed limit is 45), and they just kinda wave their hand at me. So... I lay on the horn, and they wave some more as if to say "Alright, alright, alright... but you know you made me miss my turn!" They then proceeded to weave all over the three lane highway, left and right, looking for the nearest exit to take - at 65 mph.

So yes, it's obviously too difficult a concept to grasp. Just like the guys in the leftmost lane of the Washington DC beltway who suddenly race across 5 lanes of 65mph traffic to get to their exit, which they just realized is 200 feet ahead of them. "OOPS! MY BAD!"

*fox pounds head on desk repeatedly*
But it beats driving in Boston...

Hang up and bowl!

Hang up, and speak to the rental agent!

Caught this one at my last trip to San Jose, CA. Guy in the line ahead of me for the rental car was in a heated conversation. His turn at head of the line came up, and he walked up to the agent still immersed in conversation.

The agent asked him SEVERAL times for his driver's license, whether he had a reservation, etc., and he just waved him away and kept talking to his phone while others in the line behind him grew more and more frustrated.

The agent finally gave up, went to another counter position, and took the next customer.

The pay off? About 30 seconds after the agent did this, the fellow ended his call. And then he had to wait until the agent cleared the customer he was currently working with before the "can't be bothered" cell-phone dude got taken care of - - about 4 minutes of standing around looking dumb.

PS: There WERE muted "good show!" and "jerk" comments from the queue when the agent swapped windows and took the next client!

I can definately vouch for "hang up and order!" It's extremely frustrating. And for the debates this weekend, let's add "Hang up and argue your case!" Or you forefeit the round.

Have teh best

I have a number of ideas for bumper stickers, if only I could find a place to make them for selling. This is one, that I cleaned up a little.

Get your phone outta your ear.
Get your head outta your a**
And get your a** outta my way.
