WTF Hotel

What's the deal with con hotels being sold out seven months out? That's just nuts.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, the Further Confusion hotel is sold out and has been for a couple of weeks now. Not just the con block, mind you, but the entire friggin' hotel right down to the janitorial closets. There is an overflow hotel a few blocks away, which is a Holiday Inn, but those are always such an unknown quantity that I didn't want to mess with it.

So I found a Courtyard by Marriott, which is rapidly becoming my favorite option for hotellage, just about the same distance as the overflow hotel but straight up Technology Drive -- Starbucks is right between the two, in fact, and as how I pretty much always stop in there in the mornings at FC anyway, it doesn't really add anything to my morning pre-con walk.

It does make it harder to stash stuff in my room or stop back in the room for a quick nap, but usually at FC I don't do that as much anyway.

Maybe I should book my room for next AnthroCon now. ¬.¬

The Pittsburgh Courtyard seems to have raised their 2008 rates from this year's friendly $129/night to a significantly-less-friendly $179. ¬_¬

Perhaps I should consider the Westin, once AC has a rate negotiated.

From what I understand, the Pittsburgh Courtyard may be significantly more willing to play ball this year as an overflow hotel. Watch the Anthrocon website, though I expect news of which hotel will be used for overflow won't be announced until after the Westin fills up.

That's good to hear. It's so much less crazy than the Westin, and the virtually identical proximity makes it ideal. I can still book a room in the Westin if no announcement has been made and then cancel if the Courtyard works out. I'm sure someone on the Westin waiting list would be happy to have it.
