In case you are so inclined but don't know, Joseph A. Bank is having a "$199 sale," which boils down to "lots of stuff that's usually $300-$600 costs $200" ... so I took the opportunity to get myself that brown overcoat I've been wanting, or at least something close to it. (What I really want is a U.S. Navy bridge coat or an Edwardian frock coat, except in dark brown -- but I've been searching for years and haven't found it yet.)

I'm somewhat torn about Joseph A. Bank, partially because they only rarely flirt with sizes anywhere near mine (at 52 long, I've just managed to squeak in), but mostly because they have the smarmiest, most annoying radio ads since Jack Armstrong the All-American Boy told us that real scientists say Wheaties is packed with real food energy.

Still, when the coat comes in I may just go back and pick myself up a suit. At $199 for a well-made blazer and two pairs of trousers, it's a pretty darn good deal if you're inclined to buy "real clothes".

May I recommend Ghost Forge for some fine frock-coat action? I had one custom-made by them a while ago and it was, while pricey, undeniably awesome and utterly unique. And since they hand-make the things for you it fits like a glove.

Unlike some uppity "modern" merchants, they realise that humans come in sizes other than XXXS, too. ;)

Well, I found this one (http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/001557.php) which was quite nice, but just too light.

I don't think I've ever seen any "suit" pictures...I say go for it...

On a related note:

I don't know if this is a local trend, or perhaps is spreading, but at our "expensive/trendy/if-it-isn't-in-vogue-we-don't-allow-it" mall, Fedoras are cropping up EVERYWHERE.

They seem to be THE hat for Christmas this year. Every retailer that sells hats has them prominently displayed.

Have you started a fashion trend up here in Canada without knowing it??? =)

Cheers,

Maggie

I wish I'd known. I had a trenchcoat that was 52 long, definately not my size, but we got it anyway because it was on clearance. Had I known you could wear it, I would have sent it to you before I lost it.

Have the best

Hope so. Let's go back to when fedoras weren't even a fashion statement, but a basic part of everyday menswear. They just look good.
