Mrs. Chef and I were in a Stuckey's type restaurant between Houston and Dallas (we were on our way back home from Galveston Island) that had a gift shop with candy, and they had actual Squirrel Nut Zippers (the candy the band took its name from) on the shelf. I was very tempted to try one.

I, too, miss the swing revival. It's not over in MY house -- We listen to SNZ, BBVD, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and their fedora'd colleagues all the time. I just wish BBVD would come to Dallas, but they pretty much just tour in Cali now.

You should have tried them -- they're quite tasty, actually. :) They use a lot of molasses in the recipe, so the caramel has a very rich, complex taste to it, or so it seems to me, anyway...

If you have extensive dental work, though, you might want to be careful, as they are very chewy and stick to everything. :)
