Most thumbnails just look like little gray blobs to me, and so I don't click on 'em. I prefer at least a 100x100 preview so I can have an idea of what I might be going to look at.
As for the navigation seeming the same, all I can guess is that we're looking at different sites or something, they seem like night and day. Artspots: If I want to see a user's gallery, I click on them and I'm right there. FA: If I want to see a user's gallery, I click on them and get a page that looks exactly like the page I was just on with a bunch of random thumbnails from twenty different users. Artspots: If I want to see an enlarged image, I click on it. FA: If I want to see an enlarged image, I click on it, get the same image, click on it again, and then get the enlarged image. And so on. It's not a single thing, it's the cumulative effect of just about everything being the opposite of how I'd rather it worked.

PS: And that's before the whole "I can't look at it at work" problem.
FA's gallery thumbnails are 100x100 (granted, you have to create and upload them yourself or they're the shrunken blobs), and 300x300 in the artist's most recent area of the profile page.
Artspots: I click through, and I see a bio, and a bunch of watches and favorites. I have to scroll down to see any art, the most recent images. FA: I click through, and I see a bio, a journal, and provided the bio isn't too long-winded, usually at least one sample image is immediately visible. I scroll down to see the most recent images. The most recent thumbnails are more compacted than Artspots, but the rollover preview is larger than the thumbnails on Artspots. How different is that?
You need to change your FA settings. The enlarged image will be the first thing visible if you set it that way.
Well, you just need to stop looking at naughty artists then!
I wonder if we're both referring to differences between being logged in or not...

That's a good point. I really hated FA until I got an account, and then it got much easier to manage. Seems like a minor form of extortion, but still, I found it a small price to pay.
FWIW, the option to go to a submission's full view by default is on the page where you edit your profile (http://www.furaffinity.net/controls/profile/), as opposed to "Site Settings", where it logically should be. Just one more thing on the FA's UI Is Stoopid list, I guess.

Boo, FA! Tiny icons and random links that don't go where they say they're going to FTL!

I've never had trouble with random links. I also fail to understand how the navigation is better on Artspots...seems like the same thing to me?
