Snow-verkill

It's rare that we get an actual blizzard in northern VA. (By which I mean snow + wind = blinding conditions.) It would be pointless to shovel because the snow will be blown right back into the sidewalk/driveway/street. [livejournal.com profile] lythandra has been taking movies of it all morning, it really is something that has to be seen to really grasped.

Since when is Washington, D.C. in the "lake effect" zone?

C'Mon, March!

Yeah, this is "Bay effect snow" if I ever saw it.

Seven year cycle, probably due in part to El Nino. Big storm in '95-'96, big storm in '02-'03, big storm in '09-'10. Next big storm season in '16-'17.

It's been March here for a month. Normally, I complain about dry, brown winters. After the last two years, I've been revelling in it.

"Lake effect snow" just refers to snowfall that occurs after winds cross any sufficiently large body of water. (Knew that aviation Meteorology course would come in handy)
