Hey, Fantasy Readers -- Looking for a Recommendation!

So let me describe the flavor of fantasy I'm looking for, maybe you can suggest a good story/author/series along those lines.

First off, it's broad fantasy. It's got elves, dragons, wizards, etc.; it's fairly light, but it's not strictly parody. Preferably, it should have a city of some variety. Skyships or other quasi-modern trappings are okay, as long as they are magical in nature and not technological. NOTE: Not looking for steampunk, here! So no "Victoria's Royal Sorcerer Corps" or anything of that sort. Think more like Dungeons and Dragons, except I don't actually want D&D tie-in works, I want stand-alone things.

Oh, and of course, it has to actually be in print, or at least available as an ePub.

Whatcha got for me, internet brain trust?

So... Fey is out, then?
http://www.amazon.com/Fey-ebook/dp/B004MME05I/ref=sr_1_32?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1311799742&sr=1-32

It has dragons, goblins, cobolds, satyrs, a vampire, centaurs, dwarves, a teenager running around in a fibreglass replica of japanese armor, a brontosaurus... Oh and a REAL monster...

Anything by C. E. Murphy (http://mizkit.livejournal.com)?

You might enjoy the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher, as well as The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. The first is a set of 6 novels, the second currently has 2. I can loan you all of them.

Have you read The Dresden Files? What did you think of them?

I was going to comment to suggest the Kingkiller Chronicles. I devoured both books as soon as I grabbed them. I wish the 3rd was out soon.

Gneech might like the Locke Lamora series as well. I liked both of the above better than the Codex Alera bit. I adore Jim Butcher's books (finished Ghost Story yesterday when it came out), but I don't think those were as good as the Dresden Files books.

Early works of Patricia Briggs are a hoot (Tho I'm also a big fan of her current urban fantasy stuff)

Masques has recently made it back into print, along with it's sequel Wolvesbane
Steal the Dragon (My first introduction to Briggs), and When Demons Walk

The other thing she did I found enjoyable was the Raven's books. Raven's Shadow and Raven's Strike, and the standalone Hob's Bargin

Beyond that, I've kind of lost my taste for high fantasy, moving more into the Urban side of the fantastic. I'll keep my ear out tho.

Let's see ...

There's the Xanth series by Piers Anthony if you want a fast read.

The Dragon and the George and its sequels by Gordon R Dixon

Magic Kingdm for sale (SOLD!) and its sequels by Terry Brooks

and the Myth series by Robert Asprin (again a fast light read)

Ack. LJ isn't letting me post a comment on a comment.

Short and sweet: Kingkiller, yay. Wish there were more.

Try Locke Lamora. Humor, fantasy, stuff...

Codex Alera: okay, but not great.

Dresden: MUST READ.

Codex Aleria by Jim Butcher, Goblin Corps by Ari Marmelli (although I am only 1/2 way through), and a series whose name I cannot remember by Glen Cook of Black Company Fame(and Black Company if you haven't read them)
