Sketch-A-Day: Baloo vs. a Box o' Stuff [artwork]
An attempt to draw Baloo on-model but in an original pose. I'm not sure where the idea of having him look doubtfully into a "Box O' Stuff" came from, but it works. :)

I'm actually pretty satisfied overall, except that his toes are too large (his feet should be tiny little hemispheres to be on-model) and there's something not-quite-right about the placement of his right arm that I can't put my finger on.

So just as an overall structural comment, I think you've placed his weight a bit too far upwards. His stomach looks more like a beachball, kinda spherical and rigid, whereas the weight should saaag softly a bit more down to the pelvis... I guess I'm partially basing this on the way the shirt splits open pretty abruptly.
Okay, maybe that was nitpicky, but it's just kind of a suggestion for future "squash and stretch" (not the detectives) mentality in general.

The abrupt shirt opening is pretty much the way Baloo always appears, although the lines of the shirt may be a little too curved, creating that "rigid ball" effect. Baloo's body is basically teardrop-shaped, which probably could have been played up more in this picture. I was trying to make him lean over towards the box, but there should have been more taper towards the top.

See, it's not just about the teardrop shape or the taper at the top, it's about gravity and character weight, as Disney is pretty reasonable about physics realism. The way a male's gut will rest upon his pelvis, and where most of the flesh will flow down to the legs, is what I'm getting at.
It actually took me a bit to figure out what was off, and I guess the shirt isn't the deal. But the widest part of his hips should be lower, and then flow in a convex fashion all the way to the foot. His right hip is too concave there, and a bit high.
This is, as far as I can tell, an official Disney image...

He's got a bit of a lean so it's not quite a direct comparison, but it's almost the same height. You have the legs and torso mostly the right proportions, you just have to squoooooooosh the midsection down further. His left hip there swells out only a tiny bit above the groin.
And I didn't realize it 'til I re-looked at an official image, but you made his shoulders too wide 'n' manly, in the model they slope down more like a real bear. Naturally it's not something I would've objected to XD

The one I linked originally is slightly more stylized than the TV shot, but the proportions are about right.
