Sketch-A-Day: The Cheeger Twins by ~the-gneech on deviantART

Some characters from the future of Suburban Jungle, Dover and Comfort’s kids, Charity and Charlie Cheeger. These are character development pics, not necessarily final designs.

Random Thought the First: I had a funny idea for a Fictionlet, but a) The original gag was somebody else's whom I don't know, and b) it's kinda raunchy, even for Brigid's ribald sensibilities. So I think I'm going to pass. I will say it involved a Toy Story fanfic in which adult toys also came to life.

Random Thought the Second: I think I need to go back to the Sketch-A-Day project I used to do way back when. My art skills are getting a bit rusty, and if I'm going to charge people for commissions, I really should be in good form. Also, there are aspects to my style I've always been dissatisfied with, and I really think that now's the time to change them. I'm getting to the stage where my hand tremors are going to make it harder and harder to draw at all, much less draw what I want to draw, so I need to fix these stupid style holes and do what art I can, while I still can.

Random Thought the Third: Gonna go see the second Hobbit movie today. While I have nothing but affection for Sylvester McCoy, I hope there's way less "Radagast the Ridiculous" in this one. :P I also keep holding out for elves that actually sing, 'cos, y'know, it's TOLKIEN AND THE ELVES SHOULD BE SINGING DAMMIT. But I can't say I've got much hope there.

-The Gneech

PS: No, really, in Tolkien, that's how the world is made. Just about everything important that happens in Middle-Earth, happens because elves are singing about it. C'mon, Peter, I know you've read The Silmarillion!

Well, I haven't been keeping up with the "sketch-a-day," for reasons not worth going into here, but I did manage to do one today!

Dubious Ivan is Dubious

Ivan, from [livejournal.com profile] graveyardgreg's Deathless, looking dubious. Or possibly wondering if he can steal that other guy's shirt. Hard to tell which.

If I'm gonna get used to FA, I guess I'd better start, y'know, actually using it. So here's a start...

BEEF!
BEEF!

Enjoy!

PS: Okay, the thumbnail file no worky. I'll have to see if I can tell what that's about.
PPS: Okay, now it does. Weird. Can you folks see the thumbnail?
PPPS: Okay, now it doesn't again. @&$## FA!!!

Donkey Punches of Oats!

Maybe Punk can explain, 'cause I sure can't. ;P

I wanted to challenge myself with this one. Next time I'll do something easy, like the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The Enzo is one seriously hard-to-draw car, man!

Well, we schlepped my dad over to Kaiser, who said, "Nothing's broken, don't know why his hip hurts. Take some Advil and put a heating pad on it." So he's okay, as long as he keeps poking around on the walker. I was pleased that getting him in and out of the Murano was fairly easy, as that was definitely in our minds when we bought it.

While I was there, I did some sketchin'.

Noodling around with "SJ Future" ideas. :) Input welcome!

The 16-ton weight was bad enough. But when it started showing up with a baseball bat, I knew drastic measures were needed.

Fortunately, Idealized Gneech knows that sometimes the best way to deal with a problem is with overwhelming firepower.

I was channeling my inner Herbie for this one. :) I'm quite pleased!

In order to warm up for Further Confusion, and also to keep my skills from atrophying by disuse, I'm going to try taking up the sketch-a-day habit again. I probably won't actually do a sketch every day, but hopefully I'll do more than I don't.

Today we have Maedhroc, my little hobbitey warden from LotRO, investigating a spooky castle in Mirkwood.

I realized last night just as I was going to bed that I'd forgotten to do a sketch yesterday. But it was a long day!

Today's was done in ballpoint pen on notebook paper during an application developers' meeting; the good news is, it kept me awake!

The most jaded little hobbit of them all? )

Actually, except for the woolly toes, it could pass for a scene in NeverNever.

'cause I'm drawing Suburban Jungle all day instead. :)

Apparently, it's sketches all the way down.

Sketch of the sketcher sketching the sketch. )

Recursive, isn't it?

What can I say? She asked for an adorable demonic bunny.

Well, it's demonic and a bunny, anyhow. )

Suggestion: If he offers you a carrot, don't take it.

It's a tiger in a vest and a floofy shirt, for no more compelling reason than that tigers, vests, and floofy shirts are all awesome.

Watch out, or my cravat will get you! )

He doesn't seem real happy about having his portrait sketched. Or maybe he's just wondering where his hands got off to. Not a bad job for 15 minutes of sketching, although that left arm is rotated a bit far forward.

Between work being nuts, taking care of [livejournal.com profile] lythandra, etc., I just don't have the energy for it today. I'll have one tomorrow. :)

An attempt to draw Baloo on-model but in an original pose. I'm not sure where the idea of having him look doubtfully into a "Box O' Stuff" came from, but it works. :)

It's STUFF! In a BOX! )

I'm actually pretty satisfied overall, except that his toes are too large (his feet should be tiny little hemispheres to be on-model) and there's something not-quite-right about the placement of his right arm that I can't put my finger on.

So ... how well do the designs integrate I wonder...?

Just another day at The Watering Hole. )

And for that matter, why do I have nothing but soft pencils?

-The Gneech
the_gneech: (Torey Rave)
Today was entirely too nice, so we walked up to a nearby shopping center for lunch. While sitting outside, sipping my post-prandial venti no-whip mocha frappuccino, I decided to sketch the local Franjipani Panera. :)

Cut for bandwidth. )

Today's lesson learned: 2F pencils are extremely soft, meaning they get dull fast and smoodge all over your artwork.

Well! There was certainly a wide spectrum of opinion on yesterday's sketch. :D So naturally, I had to do some follow-up. :) Today is a batch of expressions which are intended to use the same basic model as yesterday, albeit a bit tweaked to remove some things that didn't work and to try to phase back in enough hints of "classic" Tiffany to prevent that "Who the heck is this gal?" reaction.

Tyger, tyger, burning bright; your Morning Hair is quite a fright! )

Better? Not as good? No diff? Let me know what you think! :)
