"assuming" caused me to spend clock cycles on the word itself, and the "ass out of u and me" line comes unbidden. So, it is hard to get shut of that and thinking about solely the portent contained in your entire phrase. Using "so long as " or some other construct gets rid of the baggage that "assuming" has been cursed with.
