"A devil from the Outer Dark," [Conan] grunted. "Oh, they're nothing uncommon."
--Robert E. Howard, "The Vale of Lost Women"

Last night was the second session in [livejournal.com profile] sirfox's experimental "Furry D&D" game; the basic premise this time was the group of us have been sent into a "wild magic" wasteland to rescue a young noble who had no business gallivanting off that way -- so of course we were beset by all sorts of weirdness (particularly [livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett, who was loving it), such as people turning plaid, rain falling up out of puddles, etc., and of course, lots and lots of weird undead.

I'm playing a grumpy lion barbarian (surprise, surprise) with the Iron Will feat, Wis 14, and Cha 13, so my character's response to all this was easily summed up as:

¬.¬

I'm not sure if [livejournal.com profile] sirfox was a little disappointed we didn't get more weirded out by it all -- but with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] camstone, most of us have been gaming for a quarter-century or more, and after Tunnels and Trolls, Call of Cthulhu, the various World of Darkness games, and of course Teenagers From Outer Space, it's pretty hard to weird us out any more. ;) After "The Texas Chicken-Gun Massacre" (villain: FeatherFace) and "Reality Workers Local #666 On Strike", squishy undead things just don't hurt that much. ;)

Nonetheless, it was a fun session. I definitely think the LA+1 adjustment for my character is warranted, even though I'm sad to take the XP hit that will require. I'm still far and away the most powerful character in the party, thanks to the combination of goodies the "Feline (large)" species gets and some lucky dice-rolling in the Ability Score department. Good thing too, tho -- in my role as party meatshield, I repeatedly took a heck of a pounding! Spent all of my gold on a healing potion and used it up, too. D'Oh!

PS: While I'm thinking about it, note to myself: Arshan needs to save up for some gloves of dexterity.
