WTF Hotel

What's the deal with con hotels being sold out seven months out? That's just nuts.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, the Further Confusion hotel is sold out and has been for a couple of weeks now. Not just the con block, mind you, but the entire friggin' hotel right down to the janitorial closets. There is an overflow hotel a few blocks away, which is a Holiday Inn, but those are always such an unknown quantity that I didn't want to mess with it.

So I found a Courtyard by Marriott, which is rapidly becoming my favorite option for hotellage, just about the same distance as the overflow hotel but straight up Technology Drive -- Starbucks is right between the two, in fact, and as how I pretty much always stop in there in the mornings at FC anyway, it doesn't really add anything to my morning pre-con walk.

It does make it harder to stash stuff in my room or stop back in the room for a quick nap, but usually at FC I don't do that as much anyway.

Maybe I should book my room for next AnthroCon now. ¬.¬

That is an excellent idea for AC.

Woah, thats crazy. Hard to believe its already booked up solid. Maybe you should see if you can get the Tent On The Roof rate. ;)

Last year, I made my hotel reservation for Anthrocon 11 months ahead of time!

I got one of the last rooms at FC last year because I delayed. This year I had a bad feeling, so I reserved everything as soon as the rooms became available. Same with MFF.

I think furry cons are approaching gamer-con hotel reservation pathologies. From what I've read, Gen-Con's hotel sells out two weeks after reservations open.

Oh, you poor amateurs. You need to try first-day reg for San Diego Comicon, where reservations are gone in a matter of MINUTES XD

Actually, you might want to.

Something you may want to consider is (since hotels like guests) talking to a sales rep at the Couryard and finding out what you can get if you (and friends) book XX number of rooms.

We stayed at the Holiday Overflow Inn at the last FC... and I think you made the right choice in the Marriott.

THIS year, we registered well in advance.

Yeah, we live in the area -- but that just means getting a hotel room IN the con hotel is that much more important. Otherwise... we might as well just crash in our own bed.

The Pittsburgh Courtyard seems to have raised their 2008 rates from this year's friendly $129/night to a significantly-less-friendly $179. ¬_¬

Perhaps I should consider the Westin, once AC has a rate negotiated.

You do have your room registered for Dragon*Con, don't you?

Don't you?

Dragon*Con rooms sell out almost as fast as SDCC rooms. People make their rezzies the day they're announced!

I made a point of getting the room as soon as the hotel opened this year. Last year I was in the holiday inn, and that wasnt fun.

Crap. So much is in the air for January that I hadn't even thought about reserving a room for that yet. Now I wonder how that'll work if I do decide to go. Need a roommate?

MFM sold out of double rooms if you're getting there on Thursday and staying till Monday morning. I need to figure out what I'm doing for MFF real quick now, too.

That's just ridiculous.

Well, that isn't good. The project schedule at work hasn't solidified enough for me to even put in the vacation time for FC.

Just as a tip, you all might want to take a look at the FC newsletter that is put out each month. It has been announced in those about the room block sell outs for the past several months. The overflow hotel is going to be the HOliday Inn again and I believe that this year their will be a shuttle during the day. That is what I've heard.
