Maly's drawing-tastic art survey What is your favorite subject to draw? Furries generally; the SJ cast in particular. And the USS Enterprise. What is your most common choice in 2-d media? Pencil sketch Anything you refuse to draw? SJ Porn :P and anything mean Real anatomy or cartoon physics? Blend; I try for realistic but not anatomically correct Which is more important - solid inking skills or solid color theory? Ink ... I can do color no problem, but inking is hard Photoshop or PSP? Illustrator or Painter? Photoshop since version 3.0, baby! Markers - Prismacolor or Tria? Only tried Prismas; would like to try Trias Paints - oils, acrylics, or watercolors? Does painting RPG miniatures with Polly S water-base count? Have you ever done a stippling project outside of art class? Whassa stippling project? Whassa art class? Ever imitate a popular style of art? (anime, disney, comic book...) I have several attempts to copy Herbie ... and Chuck Jones. How would you define your "style?" Berke Breathed meets Beauty and the Beast What is one area of drawing that you need to improve in? There are so many! Today I'll say "inking." When did you start drawing as a hobby? (we all drew when we were little) Well, um, when I was little. I started doing comic strips in high school. What kind of sketchbook do you have? Brand? Size? How old is it? I just picked up a new one designed for use with markers; don't remember the brand. 9x11, I think. How many sketchbooks have you had previous to this? I believe this is number five...? How many sketchbooks do you go through in a year? Not sure yet; I never used to use them, I just drew on typing paper. #2 yellow pencil or a clicky pencil? Clicky please. :) What kind of eraser do you use? Gray kneadable ... sort of a cross between silly putty and sewer sludge. Who are your artistic influences? Looney Tunes, Disney, Walt Kelly, Herbie, Chas. Schulz, Berke Breathed ... lots of others. What books would you reccomend to aspiring artists? I like pretty much all of Christopher Hart's books for starters; "How to Draw Batman" and "How to Draw Wonder Woman" are also surprisingly good. Do you have any favorite online tutorial sites? I did, but they collapsed due to bitrot. Nakira/Wookiee has some good stuff up. Jeremy Bernal and Herbie both had good ones that they've since taken down. What is the most money you've ever made on one drawing / illustration / painting? One charity auction cameo went for $500! But most money in my pocket, I think was around $250-$300. Ask Spiked Punch, he was the winner! What do you hope to accomplish with your art? Do you want to go anywhere with it in life? Um ... have fun, make people happy, work out my neuroses if possible. I'd love to do it full time, but I don't see a viable way to. Finally, why do you draw? 'cause I'm really unhappy if I don't. CREATE YOUR OWN! - or - GET PAID TO TAKE SURVEYS!
