Vacation Report :)
Sep. 2nd, 2008 10:48 amAs many of you know, I have been on a vacation from the comic strips, and that included a policy of "no strip-related stuff at Dragon*Con." No workin' tables, no sitting on panels, etc.
As such, this was the first Dragon*Con in a few years that I simply wandered around looking at costumes, trolling the dealer room and exhibitor halls for bargains, and sitting in the audience at panels instead. I got to see and talk to Joel Hodgson, Frank Conniff, Trace Beaulieu, George Takei (including congrats on his impending nuptials), Walter Koenig, C. Martin Croker, George Lowe, and Adam West. I also met Sherrilyn Kenyan, whose books I'm honestly not interested in but who was super-nice and a real class act of an author; I got some killer bargains in the dealer room ($60+ worth of Conan RPG stuff for $15 — score!) and had a picture taken of myself giving bunny ears to a dalek.
In short, I had a fun, relaxed, geeky weekend. :)
However, it wasn't totally without evidence of my work. In the conbook was an advertisement for AnthroCon that included my art. I also had a few random people whom I'd not met before recognize me in the crowd and tell me they were SJ fans, which is always nice. :)
Anyway, this vacation has been very good for me. I think the strips break is going to last a bit longer (I'm guessing to the end of September), because I don't want to force myself back to it before I'm really ready, but I also think that this has definitely been the right move.

PS: Spot the Gneech! I'm somewhere in this video with my big ol' belly hangin' out. ;P
