So the house has been on the market for a week now; no real inquiries, although there have been some curious nibbles. So this weekend we spent looking around trying to narrow down where we wanted to go ourselves, if and when the place sells. Yesterday was townhouses in Reston (well, one, anyway, our other candidate had just been put under contract that morning); today we drove out to Purcellville, Leesburg, Aldie, Middleburg, etc. to see how the house size/quality to commute ratio would effect us.
The results... ugh. Not pretty. If we were that disheartened and worn out from driving out there on the weekend, what would commuter traffic day in/day out every week from now until forever feel? Short answer: not good.
So, useful data acquired. We are now narrowing our search down to smaller places closer in, and while this will require some potentially painful adjustments (in re: disposing of a lot of our STUFF), it still feels good to have some more focus in our plans.
Of course, this is all contingent on the idea that the house will sell. I'm now three weeks out from Job Implosion Day and there's currently no evidence to support the idea that we will have a buyer by then, much less be moved-- but we have some savings, and I do intend to be bringing in some money, so while we may go onto the Ramen and Broth Diet for a while, I expect we'll be all right.
Dude. I'm gonna be a professional writer in 22 days. Whoa.
