In Which I Exercise My Franchise
Nov. 5th, 2013 08:52 amState elections today! I'm a big believer in voting in the oddball elections where everyone else stays home, because it is in these elections that my vote is most likely to matter. In a national election, you're just one tiny little datum point in a giant buzzing cloud of probability; but state or local elections are decided more by who stays home than by who you actually vote for. Whichever broad demographic stays home most, loses.
Virginia elections tend to be a choice between the Crook, the Schnook, and the Just Plain Nuts, and this year followed right along. It also tends to be Northern Virginia vs. The Rest of the State, although this is becoming less true as the Richmond suburbs continue to gain affluence. Once solidly a member of the "God, Guns, and Racism" party, Virginia has become much more of a swing state in the past several elections, which is a trend I wholly approve of. A state of well-reasoned moderates is too much to hope for in the near term, but a state that flops from "awful" to "could be worse" is still an improvement.
In any case, I voted, thus having done my civic duty for today. Now for some art and writing! And kittens.
