I realize Death has a job to do, and I try to respect that... but this is just being a jerk about it. -.-
Last night Graveyard Greg called to tell me that "Luis Jr." Mercado, whom I knew mainly as "FrostDemn," passed away last Tuesday, at almost exactly the same time as my mom.
I'm kinda stuck for what to say about it. Frosty was a sweet, clever, lovable guy and a generous friend, a talented artist, and a genuinely good person. He was also young-- 28, I think? My last conversation with him was via Twitter, eight days ago, in which he complained of feeling faint and I expressed concern, hoping he would see a doctor. Unfortunately, my mother's situation came to take nearly all of my attention and I wasn't able to follow up. There are only four tweets after that... and they are heartbreaking.
So many things left not done. :( I was hoping to share a table at AC or FC with Frosty. I was really looking forward to seeing him again, as he was always a bright spot at conventions. His gadgets, his crafts, his sense of fun, he just always made things better just by being around.
I have two pieces of art which commemorate him which I would like to share. The first is one of the few times I included a fan persona in a piece of SJ marketing-- the infamous Leona T-shirt:

The second, while it doesn't feature Frosty himself, was inspired by his antics at AC 2012, in which he drove a remote-control toy tank all over the convention, "piloted" by AppleJack from My Little Pony:

I don't know what else I can say that can possibly express how I feel. You were an inspiration and a joy, Frosty, and we will all miss you very much. :(
