Does '. -The Gneech' know that you are taking things from him?

But I digress, I have trouble with those LJ-name-link-with-the-person-icon too. I also have a problem with using-too-many-hyphens.

And now for a post that's actually about the article.
I found it quite interesting, although the scope of it actually extends (at least in my case) all the way to about 1st grade. And also, at my school, the boys implemented the same abuse tactics that the girls used (basically emotional and psychological abuse) AND physical abuse all in one. So, the author's nightmare has been functioning in my area since the early 90's, possibly to the late 80's. Although, the article itself had quite a few interesting things to say, it was a little repetitive, and you had to sift through a little to get the nuggets of gold there. Sometimes I got lost to where he was getting at. But, I think it might have been a stream-of-consciousness essay.
I'd say that I apply a little differently to this. I didn't try to change my level of popularity there, I attempted (futally) to transcend it. The proble is, that the idiotic society built by the children was also used by the adults in my area. The mothers all passive-aggressively attack each other, the parents threaten to sue the school every time their kids get punished for doing anything wrong, of course the kids are going to be screwed up. Living in a rich area DOESN'T breed an admiration of intellect, it does the opposite. The feeling that the parents are always going to take care of things runs strong. Therefore, the kids who cared about grades, ect, must have come from poor, lower-class families (according to their logic, not mine.)
I think the only real fault of the article is that it doesn't take information from any other real high school (poor or rich) but only those of the author's.

Yep, that describes junior high and high school. It never occurred to me just how hypocritical the whole thing was until I realized that we always had football rallies, where the cheerleaders would bounce and cheer for the football players and other athletes. The athletes were escorted to class by cheerleaders.
In my senior year, they finally had a rally of sorts to celebrate those who had received academic awards and scholarships. Believe it or not, the cheerleaders actually showed up too. I actually had some of the "popular" people tell me how much they envied my intelligence and grades just before graduation..they wouldn't have been caught dead doing that earlier.
