Also, if you force in diversity, you risk tokenism. I've been in this job for 20 years and I've met, to use your example, exactly zero gay black accountants--and this is in Southern California. I forget precisely where Brigid's job is, if it's ever been explicitly stated, but there's nothing too unreasonable about one's peers being based on reasonable local demographics.
