That damned "escort Exeter" mission sucks, I'll grant you that -- but Wing Commander is still fun! I just got promoted to Major and earned my third Bronze Star by breaking the Kilrathi blockade of the Brimstone system. How cool is that?

I played all the old WC games back when they and my screaming Monstah Box of SCSI Death (66MHz '486 with an Adaptec SCSI card and a pair of 70MB SCSI hard drives :) were new.

The music track was killer good for the day, it was the first real attempt at putting high quality music into a shooter. Prior to that, the ancient LucasArts Loom was the best music there was. I plugged the Sound Blaster into my stereo system and the killer tunes and boom Boom BOOM shook the house to the foundations.

I seem to recall there were something like 14 floppies required to install the last DOS version of WC with the mission packs, thank gawd for CD's eh?

Gah. Now you've got me wanting to play again! Too bad I'd have to run them under Classic mode on this machine...

My copy of Wing Commander I is on three 5 1/4" floppy disks ... I haven't had a drive that could take said disks in something like five years...

When the war is over, my friend! Until then, every moment I rest is another moment that innocent people are in peril from the Kilrathi threat!

I still have a 5.25" drive here. Send me the floppies and I could get them on my server for you to DL, or find someone local (sysadmin group at your company is a likely place to look) to burn 'em to CD-R for you or?

Dittos for any of the mission packs &ct...

While junking most of a compy (a 386 and a 486 that don't really work anymore), I kept the 5.25" floppy drive. I haven't had the motivation to stuff it into a compy and copy stuff (and most of our big floppies are probably incinerated bits of carbon now).

It shouldn't be hard to find someone's compy somewhere which can read them... the problem is being able to copy it to another computer, especially when there aren't very many working floppy drives.
