I sent an e-mail off to Sue Deer offering my services as a panelist at AnthroCon this year, and she promptly replied with, "The theme is Summer Games this year, (Olympic and otherwise), I wonder if you might be able to do something with that?"

Uh ... okay ... I have no idea what, but I'm game!

So now, I'm trying to come up with ideas. Given my areas of expertise (webcomics, art, and writing), I'm not entirely sure what I could shoehorn into a Summer Games theme. Vince could easily do his anatomy tutorial as "The Athletic Furry Physique," for instance, but if I retooled my penciling panel, how would that relate to Summer Games? Maybe I could do "The Webcomics Marathon: How to Keep Going?" Something of a specialized subject, I would think.

So anyway, I'm going to toss this out for general discussion. If you are going to AC, what would you like me to do a panel on? And who, if anybody, would you want me to invite along as additional panelists?

I'm open to suggestions! And in fact, I want them, badly!

What about some sort of panel on dynamic pose or action-oriented movement? Many people have trouble drawing characters in action.

If you can think of 10 points of Webcomicry (from layout to hosting) you might be able to pull off the decathalon...

Bald, conservative, feminist nazis and the quadriplegic, soccer-playing, alien midgets who love them -- this week on The Gneech!

Invite Richard Simmons.

No, no, no, "I badly want suggestions," not "I want bad suggestions!"

Besides, Richard's busy that weekend!

Hmm ... not sure I could pull it off in an hour of panel, but it bears consideration!

Heh ... you and [livejournal.com profile] bauske are on the same wavelength. :) I'll have to explore this idea!

How about the following ideas:
"Speed drawing - it's all about being done first."
"Winning the Gold - Getting out what your audience wants."
"Althetic Poses - It's not only about bend and stretch."
"Run the Marathon - How to carry a series (or characters) for the long stretch."
"Track Shoe Artist - 'See Gneech Run, See Gneech Draw... Draw Gneech Draw!"
"Judging the winners and the loosers - How to set your own gold standards versus just being good enough"
"Steriods and Enhancing Drawing Skills - When does size really matter?"

You could mention how using different POV angles can add movement to a frame.

If it deals with webcomics, count me in as an additional panelist.

How about a panel on usin action in webcomics? Where ya show how to convey lots of action out of limited drawing space. Use Olympic sports to kinda show various action lines etc.etc. (new poster >:)

Why not the introduction of martial arts into the Summer Games? Ramses would be a good model for you to use.

I rather like that idea, actually. Comics, web and otherwise, tend to be awfully small, and it'd be neat to do see a tutorial on how to get more in there than a pair of talking heads. :)

I also like the marathon idea in the Gneech's original post. Yeah, maybe "going the distance with your web comic" has a limited audience. But fandom in general has a VERY high proportion of would-be authors, artists, cartoonists, and other creative types. Discussing how to stick to your dream -- whatever that dream is -- would be a Good Thing, I think.

I like the topic idea you proposed. I was thinking you might set up a panel discussing deadlines an time crunches for such: how to handle them, shortcuts you can take to make it easier to go the distance, how to quickly generate story ideas and fill in spaces...that sort of thing. In this case, I think your experience with the web comic and some of the time/creativity issues you've dealt with could be invaluable to the artist community.

I'm leaning towards this idea, actually, or one similar to it.

BTW, why didn't you tell me you were an artist? I just checked out your web stash ... not bad at all! :) Reminds me a bit of K-9.

I don't wanna call myself an artist until I learn some anatomy x_x. Right now I'd probably be content with "ninja doodler." Meaning.. no one knows that I draw, but if they ask and want a drawing, I'd do it.

I'll eventually get a website and stuff going after I get my art into line =)
