I've been slowly picking up the occasional pack of the prepainted plastic D&D miniatures over the past few months, since Mage Knight has so effectively shot itself in the foot. While at the local comic store in search of I Hunt Monsters! #2 I snagged myself a pack and opened it up ... repeat, repeat, repeat ... Hey! Drizzt Duorden!

For those not up on Forgotten Realms lore, Drizzt is the Wolverine of D&D -- super-competent dark loner outcast drow-turned-good ranger with a tragic past yadda yadda yadda. Your basic 13-year-old macho-wanna-be gamer nerd identification character. ;) Knowing that it would drive the value of the Drizzt miniature up, he is a "rare," and I've read claims that he goes for $20 or more on eBay. Checking that out, I think it may be an exaggeration; at the moment, he only fetches ~$8.50. But still, not bad for a little plastic elf with two scimitars.

Not that I plan to sell him, at the moment, but who knows, I might at some point. :)

That's a good way to put Driz. I know crap about his past other than he's got a panther or something as a companion? *shrugs*

Imagine if Driz went back to Lloth. Maybe courtesy of a Helm of Opposite Alignment.

Lizard Rat out.

Cool. Bring him over so I can see him. That was one of the neat things about Baldur's Gate. There was an area were you got to help Drizzt out. That was neat too. I never got there, but BG2 had a place where his whole party could be met and you could actually try and kill him (for those evil types anyway) -Frisk

It's generally not recommended. The last son of Daeroon N'shez'baernon did I get that right? would wipe the floor with any legal (not hacked or otherwise altered) PC party in short order...and he's not alone.

Even if you do manage to kill him, Wulfgar, Bruenor, Catti-Brie and Guenhwyvar, the spoils are just Not Worth It.

I bought the basic set of D&D miniatures a while back, and was titanincally unimpressed: Most of the 'monsters' that I got were giant rats and whatnot, serious lack of cool...Although I hear that the newest expansion will be featuring a 'large monster' in each one, which may warrant looking into...

I also have to agree the MageKnight shot itself in the foot: Okay, a new edition comes out and makes all the previous figures useless? What about those of us who bought a CASE of the damn things (yes, I actually did!) when they first came out? Way to screw over your fanbase. Fortunately, the company that made said mistake is not making it with their other Mechwarrior (my collectible game monkey of choice,) as they're actively supporting and promoting 'unrestricted' events, where everything is legal (normal organized play has a regular roaster of 'retired' figures, to prevent longtime players from gaining an unfair advantage over newbies.
Damn, I am _SUCH_ a geek...

Archfiends is pretty much the first series that's any good; it looks like Giants of Legend will be pretty good, too. :)
