Birthday of Davy Crockett (1786-1836),
legendary American frontiersman. He was elected to Congress in 1827 and served three terms. Returning home to Tennessee, he was asked about the habits of Washingtonians. "They have breakfast when the sun in one or two hours high," Crockett replied, "when you fellas have done nearly a half day's work. About one or two o'clock, they have what they call 'lunch,' and way in the night they have their dinner." Asked when capital residents eat supper, Crockett thought for a moment and added, "They don't get that 'til the next day."
