Must-See SJ?

Websnark has an interesting essay today about the cultural phenomenon of the "New Fall Season" -- how creative endeavors, particularly on the internet, get a burst of energy, enthusiasm, and new starts in the fall.
This is not a new phenomenon, of course ... on messageboards, particularly in the furry community, there's always an influx of new users. In the days of alt.*.furry, this also meant the inevitable new rash of obnoxious trolls. Veteran campaigners would just simply shake our heads, sigh, and say, "September." Obviously, a lot of it has to do with the start of the school year, particularly college for reasons that are probably obvious to anyone who's been there. I know that for me, college was a whole new life -- and a vast improvement over the crappy one I'd been living before.
Anyway, in the past couple of weeks there's been a noticeable pick up among the jungloid community. The portfolio pieces are getting a lot of discussion (for good or ill), and both my e-mail and the tip jar have noticed a sudden surge in activity. (W00t!)
Obviously, I'm excited about this. ^.^ But I'm also curious as to what prompted it, and how much of it is related to the renaissance of NeverNever.
In any case, I'm very glad it's happening. :) For a while, aside from the hardcore jungloids, it was a bit quiet out there. ;) But to be fair, SJ has not been at its best either. I hope to fix that, come September.

Okay, maybe it's not been at its highest level but I think you've got a good story going at the moment. Besides which this story is building up some background on a couple of characters and that is almost always guaranteed to make a story slow some. The dividends it pays later however more than make up for it.
As for things being slow, well two things. Summer is not the time when people sit at computers a whole lot so traffic is less. And some people look for Tiff more than other characters so the current line might make them quieter then usual.
Of course there is always the possibility that a certain lioness has frighten some away as well.
*wink*

Date: 2006-08-18 01:41 pm (UTC)The portfolio images have generated some interesting discussion, particularly Comfort's. Thursday's piece is my favorite so far. (Set spots=sexy) It's about time somebody put the cheetah at the top of the hierarchy.
Just out of curiosity, do you have anything in mind for the front and back covers yet?
