Well here I am, back in the land of bureaucracy and non-dairy creamer. It feels like it's been a long, long time since I was here ... new people have started and familiar faces are leaving. Plus, with Steve Irwin gone and Star Trek officially being re-released in "FX enhanced" editions, the world is changing all around me.

Sitting next to Bill (Holbrook) and watching him work was an educational experience, as always. He came to the con with four pages of penciled strips and inked two strips a day, on top of all the usual schmoozing and being gracious to fans that he always does. I have been looking at the possibility of cutting back to a Tuesday-Friday work week to make room for the strips and writing and such, and I'm more eager to begin that now than ever. Bill has a set schedule in blocks where he pencils a week's worth of one strip, inks a week's worth of a different strip, and writes the scripts for a week's worth of the next, and it seems to really work well for him. I'd like to do something similar; I certainly got a ton of work done on the strips yesterday (by comparison to my usual hour or two snuck in here or there).

One down note about Dragon*Con, apparently Monday night around 10:30, somebody decided to take the fast way down from the third floor -- i.e., smashing a window with a table and jumping down onto one of the tunnels that leads to a restaurant below. The good news is they survived the fall and were quickly whisked away to the hospital ... as to what they were thinking, nobody knows. Late at night on the last day of the con -- they might have been drunk, it might have been PCD, it could be anything. Here's hoping they will recover soon.

That's all for now; I have in mind to post about my encounter with the airline pilot at Seattle's Best, but I will wait and do that later. The thought is still only half-baked.

The world may be changing, but there's always room for nostalgia.

Scheduling blocks of time for art and writing couldn't hurt. It would mean you can reach the proper mindset and stay there for a while.

I'd love to find out what was going through that person's mind. It was a tunnel, covered by a window, and probably wasn't in a place where people would be expected to walk. Yeah, that sounds like an entrance.

I assume when you say "tunnel" you mean skylight that has an overly long shaft.

If that is the case the person in question may have thought of a way to scare people in the restaurant and thought the skylight would support not only their weight, but the impact as well.

Not a brilliant move in any case. :=/

Not exactly; this is more like a catwalk with a curved glass ceiling, sort of like a person-sized Habitrail.

It sounds like the tunnel was originally meant for people to use, but was shut down for some reason, probably safety concerns.

Ahh.

A "skyway" of sorts then. Understood.

Actually, it turns out they were just staying the Con hotel and weren't attending the con. It was the second floor, but they jumped onto the glass tunnel that leads to the grill restaurant. Everyone who enters and exits the restaurant goes through the tunnel. That's why so many people heard him hit and break the glass and saw him being carried away. If there hadn't been so many witnesses, we'd never have heard about it.

Sounds like you came away from the con with some good plans and inspiration. I hope it works out for you as it would be great to continue to see the strip with a less stressed out artist.
