Watched Doctor Four in Pyramids of Mars this evening as I drew. I didn't realize how much I missed the clipped, aristocratic diction of received pronunciation until I heard it again in bulk, and it is an aspect of both Eccleston and Tennant that drastically weaken the authority of their portrayals of the Doctor, IMO. It's not a dealkiller, but it is a weakness.

Is that the same thing as Schoolhouse English? It was used exclusively in WWII, and led my grandfather to hate the English while he was fighting over there... he couldn't stand being forced to use the accent.

Have teh best

Well, it's the same as "Queen's English," anyway, if that counts.

And now you have British actors doing various American accents (Michael Caine, Hugh Laurie), and Scottish actors doing English accents, and Kiwi actors doing English and American accents...
