Pre-con haircut day! That's what today was, among other things. However, as Stephanie (our usual mop-mower) chose this inopportune time to go on her whirlwind tour of, er, somewhere, we went with a pair of unknowns at the Bubbles close to our house.

Normally I take some photographic reference for my cut, generally of Brendan Fraser and Hugh Grant, and tell the haircuttist to aim for somewhere in between. However, I didn't have my photos this time, so I described my desired cut as "a taper cut, fairly short on the back and sides, but with a lot of body up on top."

While I'd say it was overall a fair description of what I got, Sean (the haircuttist) and I have different ideas of what constitutes "a lot of body". The same way the 10th Doctor described himself as having "big hair" while I described him as having "very little hair," what Sean thinks of as "a lot of body up on top" I think of as "a few curls that will look better once they've grown out for a month."

Or, as [livejournal.com profile] lythandra said when she saw me, "Wow, that's short."

So short, in fact, that my hat now sits an inch lower on my head. 0.o

Ah well, it makes for variety. :) And at least now it'll be easy to take care of at Dragon*Con. Shower, shake the water out of it, and it's dry!

The acid test of how short it is: what does Vince think of it? ;-)

You'd probably think it was "medium length". ;P

That's funny. I just got my pre-con haircut today, too. It's just a shame you're going to the wrong con :-P Oh, and remind me to talk to you about FC, as that's probably going to be the next con I'll see you at.

well..you should have taken my advice...(grin)

ugh...I always get short haircuts. When you work in a factory, long hair is not a good idea. (though there are a few guys there with hair down to the middle of their backs. And mullets.)

I prefer supershort hair myself, though I tend to forget and let it grow out. But to get my costume ready for DC, I go crew cut. But I'll wait until I get to Atlanta and get my head shaved, I can just run by my uncle's shop either Thursday or Friday morning.

I always go in (having mid-back-length hair) and the woman tells me how great my hair is, how much natural body it has, how beautiful the natural color is, and how gorgeous it looks without any gel/spray/whatever in it.

Then she proceeds to cut off as much as she can get her hands on. This mania strikes any woman who gets within 3 feet of my hair with a pair of scissors.

Aren't these people instructed in classrooms both in what a "trim" is and how the customer will be unhappy if you cut too much off?

I have been growing my hair out for so long that when I go into someone's scissor shop, I look them dead in the eyes and tell them that I want a trim and only a trim and I'm not interested in shoulder-level hair.

Sorry. Sore point.
