"Greeeeeg..." came a weak rattle. "Breaaakfassst..."

Greg looked out over the bar of the pass-through, to see Brigid in sweats, dragging herself painfully across the floor towards the kitchen.

"What ho, a zombie!" he said.

"Please," Brigid croaked, almost desperately, as she gripped at a stool leg to pull herself up. Her eyes were crunched in agony, but the rest of her face was completely slack as if it just took too much energy to have an expression. "I've got to get out of here by 7:30. Some moron set up an 8:00 proposal meeting ... I set four different alarms to get myself up ... I just had the fight of my life to roll out of bed onto the floor to get myself moving. God as my witness, I'll never say a bad thing about you again, if you'll just make something, anything, for breakfast. If I make it myself, it'll take forever! I've got to go by 7:30!"

Greg raised his eyebrows in apology. "I hate to tell you this," he said, as she succumbed to gravity again, "but it's 8:15."

There was a long moment of silence. "Fuck," Brigid said finally, and fell asleep on the rug.

And he's not evil enough to make breakfast then give her the bad news.

I could probably do that, but that's 8:15 Pacific Time and I live in North Carolina.

Bah. By the time 8:15am rolls around, I've already put in an 8 hour day and then some.

I find this less believable than the other ficlets - it's a bit OTT. Maybe if Greg was relating it as an anecdote and exaggerating?

(But damn! it was funny!)

I had a more frantic morning last week. I had an 11am job interview. I had to catch the bus at about 10am. Phil usually gets up at 8:20 and is kissing me goodbye at 9, which is my signal to get up.

Only that day, he decided to sleep in a bit. I did not know this until he was kissing me good-bye and said, "Have a good sleep in!" "Can't," I muttered, gotta get ready and leave for an intervie-" I rolled over and looked at the clock. "Does that say 9:44?" "Yes, I'm running a little late." "A LITTLE LATE? SHIT!" "Wha? When do you need to leave?"

"In 2 minutes."

*blinkblink* "Go shower, I can be a bit later. I'll drive you there."

*much kissing of toes* I actually got there about the same time as the bus would have.

who cares about morning, noon and night?

Caffeine is your friend.
Bright halogen lights are your friends.
Cipro mixed with massive doses of Iranian style tea also do wonders.
Life goes by the inbox and the ABC chimes from KGO at the top of the hour...

I've also had times where I nodded off in my room in the afternoon. Left the light on, wake up, look at the clock and think 'Dear god, I'm late'. Only to realize when I finally wake up a few minutes later that I'm early, by ten, eleven hours or so. n_n

Hehe, that sounds a lot like my old college roomie, Ben. Though I can get up early (heck, now that I work nights again, I'm always up early...) I'm not usually that chipper.
