Greetings from my new computer, which has been christened GORT.

Turns out the Dell bot was right -- no LPT ports, no serial ports. Yikes. Time to go get a hub and some adapters!

So far the performance is fine, but that doesn't mean much as I haven't been doing anything but ripping out Norton and installing my own software. More bulletins on this subject as events warrant.

In other news, Halloween turnout has been disappointing to say the least. I know there are kids in the neighborhood, I've seen 'em! Why aren't they trick or treating? 0.o

Maybe we need flickering jack-o-lanterns out front. We just didn't have time for that this year, unfortunately.

They've been doing away with everything but USB it seems.

It really annoys me about the serial, since I've harware at work that requires it.

I don't suppose you can get a USB to Serial cable released with open source drivers (or are recognized correctly/automatically)? (See, I'm buying this Linux laptop from Asus soon...)

All the ones I've seen require drivers and are all Windows based, and are poorly done. I've a problem installing stuff where the first two options (after I get the CD install to run) were "Simplified Chinese", "Traditional Chinese" then "English"!

I'm looking into a magic usb-to-serial chip for projects - but writing windows device drivers is beyond my attention span.

Hey Gneech, I didnt know how to get in touch with you another way, so I'll post this here.
