Today I am perky and all gung-ho to get some good work done -- unfortunately, I'm stuck at my job, instead. Pfui! Oh well, I'll just have to make the best of it.

There are rumors that I may be getting some Cold Fusion training in the next few weeks -- thus doubling my market value, resumarily speaking. Somebody with web graphics and HTML is nowhere near as in demand as somebody with web graphics, HTML, and database experience. I suspect that there is a position more or less being built with my name on it, which I certainly wouldn't object to.

On the home front, now that moving is just an unhappy memory, at least for the next few months, I can start turning my attentions to other things. Yes, we've still got a lot of stuff to unpack, so I'll have to devote at least a little time to that over the next several weeks. But that's really the only Big Life Situation Thingie that needs dealing with at the moment -- and man, I hope it stays that way for a while. I have stuff I want to do, and I'm sick of life getting in the friggin' way.

The main thing I want to accomplish in the near term is to start getting ahead on my strips. I've been saying that for two years now, but it really is true that when I can get ahead, it's a major relief. Strangely enough, when I know that I don't have to draw today, it makes me want to draw that much more. Thus, getting ahead is itself the most powerful way for me to stay ahead, if you see what I mean.

I think I'm going to officially rule out Further Confusion this year. I'm not in a situation right now where I can afford a trip to California every year, as much as I'd love to go. I'll be going to MFF in November, which is better than I was expecting just a few weeks ago, and I think that will probably tide me over until Anthrocon next year.

I am also considering giving DragonCon a miss next year; this year's, while fun, wasn't quite as exciting as the previous two, and was a LOT of money and trouble. (The fact that my back fell to pieces just before the con didn't help, of course, but that's not particularly an influence on my thoughts on the subject.) Whether I'll go to MFM instead, or just spend August at home, I'm not sure. Since Laurie wants to move next September, and she'll start fretting about that in, say, March ;P, I don't know yet what I'll be wanting to do at that stage.

Anyway, here's the current "Too Much To Do List."

  • Finish "Marble Halls" Mopsy/Beowulf pic to auction for MFF fund

  • Finish buttons artwork and get to BJ

  • Come up with next MFF auction pic

  • Print up MFF auction cameo certificate and mail

  • Draw SJ for next week

  • Work on commissions

  • Work on SJ site redesign

Time to get to work!

Congratulations on a progressive day.

And to EskerMikeyWhitePaw... ;)

It ain't easy getting the "ou" combination in the 118 sounds possible in Japanese.

It isn't "o", or "ou", originally, since these are both translations into romanji from the Japanese symbols, many of which themselves are translated from Chinese kanji.

But the "o" is, I think, the standard Modified Hepburn treatment. Which one do you prefer?

Understood. I've actually seen the "oo" substitution for the macron more frequently, and in fact had never seen the "ou" before, but then I am not greatly experienced in this area.

I did say "many Kanji...were translated", not "all were copied". ;)

Hard to have a spelling be in Japan, isn't it? If you can pronounce it, you can spell it with kana.
