Oooh! Oooh! TokyoPop! I've got to make this suggestion, because I went to school with the guy and he's a really, really cool guy... Look up Mail Order Ninja. He's only got two issues out (as far as I know) with the third one in production.
The story author is Josh Elder. Josh was going to law school to become a judge (he's really, really smart). Until he was diagnosed with hodgkins disease (his mother--his divorced mother--raised him while she battled cancer herself).
Josh went for treatments, at the top end of Illinois, away from family and friends, and decided that if he wasn't going to be around long that he'd do what he always wanted to do: write for comics.
So he found himself an artist and dug up a storyline that he'd been working on for years (btw, he's also an avid fan of Spiderman, Superman, Batman, and L. Frank Baum). And it exploded.
He's got several other works in the fire, and is now living out a dream by writing for some new Batman comics.
