Moving Out for a Week
Mar. 20th, 2008 10:55 amI mentioned that we're getting our windows replaced. This is something we would have liked to have done before moving into the house, but it was just not feasible at the time.
Well, it looks like we get to move out again for a week. >.<
Y'see, the construction crews need for all furniture to be eight feet away from the windows in order to work without risk of damaging our stuff. Unfortunately, most of our rooms are not even eight feet across, and the ones that are, have more than one window. So, in essence, we can't have any furniture in the house. 0.o
We can't shove it all into the garage, either, because the window people are putting their hardware in there.
Right now we're looking at April 15th - 18th. So we're going to have to get a temporary storage place, move 90% of our stuff there by Sunday the 13th, then move it all back to the house the weekend of the 19-20th.
Cripes. -.-

Date: 2008-03-20 04:08 pm (UTC)If they're worried about being liable for damaging your property (or having it stolen by the ne'erdowells they hired) tell them you'll find someone who can do the job safely and who doesn't hire criminals.
Seriously. I've seen meth-addled housepainters have no problem painting a room with stuff in it... they throw down bisqueen, drag the furniture out of the way, and do the job.
This doesn't smell right to me.

I'd be getting someone else to do it, if they told me that. They can stuff themselves if they think I'm moving out of my house for something like that.
O.o

Date: 2008-03-20 06:59 pm (UTC)To me it seems that the company wants make it easy on themselves. Any copmentent window company can do it without requiring moving stuff 8 feet from the walls. Two to three feet maybe, to allow them to get to the windows, but not 8 feet.
You should not, even for new flooring, have to empty your house.
I would, in no uncertain terms, tell them that you cannot and will not empty your house or move items 8 feet from the window walls. If they cannot work without you clearing the house then they lost a sale.
Talk to Smrgol on what should be going on.
