I think I'm going to just have to admit that on some level, I'm stalling.

Ya see, the end of Suburban Jungle in its current form is getting close. Very close. As in, we are in the last story arc, and pretty far into it at that.

And, as much as I need it to be finished, it's been a huge part of my life for the past ten years and it's tough to let go.

Now, it's not all stalling — this has been a crazygonuts year for lythandra and myself, and shows no signs of slowing down. My dad's health problems are a fact. Our jobs trying to take over our lives and needing to be beaten into submission is a fact. Getting myself out from under dependency to Cymbalta is a fact.

But there have also been plenty of times that I could have been drawing but suddenly had an overwhelming compulsion to have Maedhroc grind out 10,000 orcs for his Drudgery deed in LotRO for instance. Usually when that happens it's because I'm tired and know that if I try to draw I'll make a hash of it, but if I'm going to be honest, I need to face the fact that sometimes I've just been stalling.

It's weird how coming to a stop with SJ is much harder than starting it was. But both it and I are stagnating and need to grow. Scary step it may be, but it's a necessary one.

For what it's worth, i first ran across SJ while goofing off at my first post-college job sometime in the '99-2001 era. Still following it. n_n

I also know how easy it is to derive a sense of virtual accomplishment from toiling away at a mmorpg rather than sit down and bang out artwork. (far FAR too easy, done it too often myself)

Let me know if you want to make a semi-regular art night to sit down away from distractions and hammer away at stuff, redline anatomy that doesn't look right, etc.

Strange as it may sound, a semi-regular art night is more likely to happen once the strip is done, than when it's going. Because then I can shuffle the rest of my week around it.

You've kept us waiting for so long only to tell us that it's right near the end?

To be honest in recent times I thought you'd abandoned SJ, or at least wanted to... I guess I wasnt so far from the truth :(

There just seems so much more possibility still, there's so much with the characters which feels yet to be explored :/

Ah, but the key phrase is "in its current form". We have reason to believe that it will return, eventually, bigger and better - no?
