I use whatever works. For metals, I mostly use Reaper or Citadel, and in fact the new miniature is a doctored one of these:
("Haldir's Elves with Swords" from the Citadel LotR line. He's been doctored to replace the sword with a spear — no easy feat! — and had a shield slung over his back.)
