On a little whim I ran "gneech" through Google to see what would come up; the overwhelming winner was an anti-Micro$oft page I put up back in 1996 or so in anger at being forced to abandon WordPerfect for M$ TurdWord.

It's kinda discouraging to think that more people care about the fact that I hate Micro$oft, than care about the comic strips I've been knocking myself out to produce. :P

One of these weekends, I'm going to have to go through and tear down all those ancient AOL pages I have, put up a new personal homepage that gets rid of a lot of that embarrassing old junk, and generally clean up my web presence.

I might look into getting a proper message board for the Grumman Goose page so people will stop sending me e-mail about it, too ... as much as I like the Goose, I don't have the mental bandwidth to pursue that particular interest any more.

Put a google search link on your Suburban Jungle web page. That will help it's priority for getting hits if someone searches for Gneech.

Google ranks webpages based on how many other pages it finds link back to it. Ergo, if you have a thousand pages pointing to your Microsloth page, it will get a score of 1000. Since those pages have been there since the first caveman fell off his dinosaur and complained about the HMO bill via his PDA, and since the number of MS-haters is far FAR larger than the entire fandom as a whole, that those old pages have a higher "score" wouldn't surprise me or bother me in the least. Don't worry about it, bud.

Gotta know how these things work, doncha know :)

I'm not sure how you connect the number of Google hits to what "more people care about".

But if you want to see what your web page looked like a couple of years ago, it's still available. ];)

"Color's a hit! Although I was surprised by the number of people who actually preferred black and white dailies, the overall response to color has been very positive -- almost everyone who commented on it said the same thing. "I love the color -- but I'd rather have the strip come out regularly!"

Well fear not; I've found that coloring the dailies doesn't take significantly longer than doing them in black and white with shading, so color won't be interfering with SJ's new schedule, which is going to be M-W-F-Su every week until further notice.

Regarding NeverNever... I've had quite a few queries about NN this week, so I'd like to reassure everyone that there are more NN strips in the works. It will probably be another few weeks before they show up"

*chuckles* and now coloring takes even LESS time than it did before. ;)

Yes, my friend, I was thinking of you. ]:)

And my choice of quotes from The Gneech's website -- mid 2000 or about 30 months ago -- were quite careful.

Of course, he wrote them, and the whole point of his complaint above is that the wrong things are being remembered, so I may be in hot water now myself...

Oh, I know how it works all right. :) Part of my job at LifeMinders was to push our rankings in search engines as high as possible. :)

I do not like bringing discomfort to a friend. I enjoy helping friends. Sometimes this distinction gets a bit fuzzy. ];)

*Chuckles* I like those pages, though I didn't learn of them until after I was already an SJ/N^2 fan. :) This was when I was searching for the meaning of the word, Gneech, and I came across the website. I was amused. Haven't looked at it since.

Think about it this way:

If you put "Gneech" into a search engine, the results
you get are you.

If you put my name into a search engine, the results
you get are a cereal company.

Ah yes, but the company that gave birth to Tony the Tiger!

Can you get me his autograph?

Tony's handwriting looks almost identical to mine.

Compare my signature, vs that on a cereal box. :)
