From the appendix of Some Buried Ceasar, by Rex Stout, "Bantam Crime Line" edition:

Rex Stout and P.G. Wodehouse were lifelong friends and each had a tremendous respect for the other's work. When Stout heard the news of Wodehouse's death in 1975, he expressed his admiration thus: "He always used the right words, and nearly always used them well."

Given the personalities and interests of these two, why does this not surprise me at all? I would love to have heard some of the banter these guys bandied back and forth.

I haven't heard of Rex Stout, but I greatly enjoy P.G. Wodehouse. Have you ever seen the PBS Masterpiece Theater makings of the Jeeves and Wooster series? They're delightful!

Rex Stout wrote the Nero Wolfe mysteries, which are currently being dramatized on A&E.

As for Jeeves & Wooster, you haven't been reading the archives (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=the_gneech&itemid=194617), have you? ;)

No, as a matter of fact, I have not. Anymore, I don't read more than the 25 most recent posts on my friends list.

Remember last time I was away, and that just for a weekend? I askde people to point out any relevant posts that I should read. AND GUESS HOW MANY PEOPLE DID? ONE.

So I guessed that if it was important, people would let me know.

:)
