From the "No Sh*t, Sherlock" Department

Those of you who watched a lot of "Tom and Jerry" over the years may remember an episode in which Tom, attempting to impress a kitty cowgirl, lipsynchs to Phil "Baloo" Harris's "If You're Ever Down In Texas, Look Me Up." Well, ever since I was a kid, there was a line in that song that's driven me nuts:

  "Am I right
  or am I riller?
  Man, this song's
  a killer-diller!"

For 30+ years I've been wondering what the hell "am I riller?" means -- and this morning it just clicked into place. He's singing about Texas. So it should be:

  "Am I right
  or Amarillo?
  Man, this song's
  a killer-diller!"

He's just slurring "Amarillo" to make a (very questionable) rhyme! Argh!

Curly, do you have any idea the mental anguish you've caused me over the years???

Dorothy Levitt's The Woman and the Car (1909) offered the female "motoriste" tips on operating her own automobile while maintaining her appearance amid mechanical failures. Levitt cited non-legged, skirt-style overalls as "indispensible to the motoriste" and proceeded to describe the type women ought to wear. They should, she wrote, "be made of butcher-blue or brown linen, to fasten at the back -- the same shape as the artist's overal. ... You can always slip off your coat and put on the overall in a moment, and it is necessary if you have anything to do in the car. Remember, it is better to get grease-spots on your washable overall than on your coat."

Thursday Workout Report (No "WHAT?" No Glory Edition)

Tonight's video choice was the last episode of Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers and man oh MAN it was bad.

But enough of that pain! Let's ( escape to Wisconsin! )

Some of the weights jumped up too far on my last 5% increase, so this week I didn't to increases across the board, but only increased the exercises I can do with proper form and no strain. The Triceps Pushdown and Flat Barbell Bench Press in particular need at least one more week at their current weight ... whereas the Narrow Pulldowns (to pick one at random) still have a lot of room to increase before I hit my limit on them.
