The only time during the entire week (including the wee hours of any other day) we can open the windows without having to worry about a traffic jam, screaming kids, a mob of people standing out in the neighbors' driveway yakkity-yakking, car stereos going thump-a thumpa-a, etc.

The bells of the church behind us ring at 8:00 a.m., but they're pleasant, distant, and over quickly.

For a quiet little suburban neighborhood, this place is much noisier than when I lived in Richmond!

Okay, the hardware is all reconnected, the software's almost-all reinstalled, and the computer is back in operation. It still has a worrying habit of taking forever to boot up when the PDA is connected -- some kind of bug in the USB drivers that is apparently endemic to this particular model from what I've been able to gather, so I've been trying to configure the PDA to synch via wireless, without success. :P (It used to be able to do it, no trouble. Argh.)

I fear that I may simply have a lemon, and as such all this time I'm spending hooking it all back up may end up being wasted effort if it goes down in flames again in six months. But I'm going to soldier on as best I can for now and deal with all that ... later.

So now I'm going to concentrate on trying to catch up with things I wanted to get done this weekend, instead of pfutzing around with the computer, with what time and energy I have left for the weekend. We pretty much had to punt on going to see Forbidden Kingdom (cry) and we may spend this evening fixing my mother's computer instead, 'cause obviously being able to work on my own stuff is too much to expect. But I'll fall off that bridge when I come to it.
