(Note: I'm posting this as an elaboration of a point I was trying to make last night but bailed out of discussion on because it was making me see red. I'm posting it here because I want the idea to be out of my head and because those in the discussion might be interested in my thoughts. I'm also disabling comments because I really don't want to talk about it.)

Do you know what's really interesting about the Napoleonic Wars?

I don't. Because Virginia schools never taught that part of history. They were too busy teaching the Civil War over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Do you know what made Marco Polo such an important figure?

I don't. Because Virginia schools never taught that part of history. They were too busy teaching the Civil War over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Do you know why the U.S. was compelled to fight in Korea?

I don't. Because Virginia schools never taught that part of history. They were too busy teaching the Civil War over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Do you know what life was like in the Jamestown Colony, a major Virginia landmark and the first real "town" settled by European colonists?

I don't. Because Virginia schools never taught that part of history. They were too busy teaching the Civil War over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Do you know how many of Thomas Jefferson's and Benjamin Franklin's inventions and discoveries are still in use today?

I don't. Because Virginia schools never taught that part of history. They were too busy teaching the Civil War over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Do I have to continue? Believe me, internet: Virginia needs "Confederate History Month" like Abraham Lincoln needs another hole in the head.
