the_gneech: (Rastan Kill Monsters)
I am feeling an usually strong desire for novelty in gaming this weekend. I want to do something that is not d20-based, that has a bit of story behind it (but not necessarily super-intricate plottiness), and takes us at least slightly out of our usual routine.

My first thought was a new scenario for my sporadic Call of Cthulhu game. The last scenario got rather bogged down and we never finished it, but fortunately w/ CoC you can always say "It was horrible, just horrible! You've blocked the memories of what happened that terrible night, but you occasionally still hear the screams in your nightmares. As for today, you're hanging out at the Miskatonic Library when an ill-smelling personage shambles up to you..." and just move on. But ... well ... I'm not really in the mood, and mood is the one thing you really need to do CoC right.

So what else is out there? I'm not really interested in the CRPG but I've heard some good things about the system behind the Dragon Age RPG, so I might give that a try. I have a copy on order, but I don't know if it'll come in time for this weekend. I also have my own little quickie-design 3d6-based system I've been noodling around with during mathy moments (hard to believe I get mathy moments, but it does happen). Again, don't know if I'd be able to have anything ready to go this weekend with it, tho.

Hmm. Must continue pondering. I wonder if I can manage to fit in a trip to Game Parlor today or tomorrow...
