My brain would not shut up last night. I started out by laying in bed awake for a good hour or so, going around and around the same stuff, getting more and more agitated the whole time. And whenever I'd try to break it by concentrating on breathing exercises or the like, I wouldn't last ten seconds without slipping back into the same circle without even realizing I'd done it.

When I finally did fall into a light semi-sleep, I had dreams; dreams, dreams, dreams, shut up brain!, dreams. Like always, they were set at the Ogden Street house (apparently my subconscious still lives there), and the main theme I remember coming up is that I was constantly trying to impersonate people or otherwise perpetrate frauds against my will, and not doing a very convincing job.

At the end of each dream, I'd wake up, shift around uncomfortably, and very slowly go back to sleep, only to immediately fall into another unpleasant dream. I remember there was one where I was running (I forget why, it was either trying to catch something, or running away from something), and I woke up because my legs were starting to kick.

Why? I dunno. The only theory I have right now is that maybe I had too much caffiene yesterday, and it was cold last night (and I never sleep well when I'm too cold).

It's gonna be a long day. :P

Something in the Water, Maybe?

It must be something about this time of year. I've been having the same types of problems as far as sleep goes. At first I thought it was the caffeine but I cut that out a week ago and the dreams are still going strong. Maybe your subconscious is working on letting something go? The dreams I have, at least, seem to be of that type: a mixing of bits of reality and parts of the past in an attempt to let some parts of the past go. Either way, it's annoying. Brains are supposed to sleep when you do! If you figure out the cause or the cure, let me know :) In fact, patent it....I'm sure there are lots of folk who want to know. :)

May just be the allignment of the moon or something. I've been having oddball dreams, too. Sunday night I was in Paris, and someone stole a bomb to nuke Rome, and we were waiting for Milan to retaliaite. Monday night I dreamt I was being chased (always, the scary critters chase me) by python-sized rattlesnakes, and last night, though not scary, was odd-- I dreamt I was Tim McGraw singing Garth Brooks songs.

Wierdness abounds in the sub-conscious.

My question is off topic here, as I share your concerns that The Gneech rest well. It's often easy to pick out where the brain gets its raw material for dreams, but I've seen no compelling evidence that we know what they "mean". Or, indeed, that there IS some significant underlying meaning.

But anyway, reading your post, perhaps you happen to know who did Elton John's "Tiny Dancer"?

I don't know either; I heard it once and was surprised how faithful the country version was to Elton John's, including the piano and violin treatment.

I didn't sleep very well last night either, continually waking up for no readily apparent reason, after taking forever to drift off in the first place. Unlike you, though, a night without dreams is something to be concered about for me. last night's were mainly vain attempts at my brain to expunge itself of the stupid computer game I've fed it constantly in the past week or so. -Frisk

This sounds like a job for....

Emergency Pants! No... wait... Sorry. No, this sounds like a real good reason to invest in a box of tension tamer or sleepy time Celestrial Seasonings tea. I found both work WONDERS at taking your very overactive mind, and flattening any sorts of bad things like that... Really, it works for me when I have that same system.

I have Bailey's Irish Cream, does that count? ;)

Does it count? Well, not EXACTLY... The idea is relax your mind, not wrap a slice of lemon around a gold brick and hit yourself with it. ;) Both methods work, but one kills braincells.

But I suppose in the end, the choice is more what you have nearby, when your in the situation. So, if you have tea nearby... use it. Hot teas are great during cold weather like this.

But make sure it's not a Caffeinated tea!

And a small amount of alcohol is not likely to kill brain cells. It is a depressant, after all, which means it will ultimately make you sleepy. Just don't use it a lot... even if just as a sleeping med, drinking it by habit is Alcoholism.

But MMMMM! Irish cream!

Nah. Sleepy Time and Tension Tamer teas aren't caffinated. Celestrial Seasonings says it doesn't have any right on the box. And its got a lot of good stuff. Camomeal and CATNIP. :) That stuff will knock anyone into a completely relaxed state, if they're not expecting it. Really, it takes the edge off of stuff really well. I used to drink it to help me relax during a rough period of time in my life. Now I just drink it to help me relax if I feel all tense for no good reason. But it does help calm the overactive mind. :)

At least for me it did. Dook.

Oh, really! Catnip!

And how silly of me to forget that you're talking about Celestial, which is herbal, not (in most cases, anyway) actual tea leaves.

You'd think I could remember that, since I grew up five miles from the factory...

Oh really?

Just curious, since I don't have a box of Celestrial Seasonings nearby... Where is the factory? I never thought of looking on the box to find out. And yeah, the stuff has catnip in it. Not sure what effect it has on people, but its good. :)

Officially, it's Boulder, CO. Unofficially, it's a community that used to be independent but is now annexed by Boulder, called Gunbarrel. It's a quaint little village which was built up by the city to support the region's main manufacturing campus of IBM.

And if you are ever in the Boulder area, I highyl reccomend taking the free tour of Celestial-- it's great fun, and while you wait, you may trey out their various teas for free in the lobby. Ah the beauty of a tea factory founded by an old hippy! :-D

Wow... That sounds like the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta. All the coke you can drink for a 5 dollar tour. And we're talking coke from AROUND THE WORLD. But I doubt TG needs to be drinking caffine before sleep. ;)
