  • I think it may be time to get a new fedora. My current one is beginning to show its age.

  • I ought to get a new Moleskine to keep on-the-fly notes in. Maybe I can do that at lunch. Done!

  • I am worried that my new comic may not get off the ground; I have plenty written for it, but I'm not sure I have the long-term obsession that would compel me to draw 2+ hours every day any more... and I'm not sure the return would be worth the time invested. If this whole "full time at home" idea [livejournal.com profile] lythandra and I have been working on becomes a reality, I might be able to make one day a week "comic day." In the meantime, I really have to examine whether my limited creative time might not be better spent on other things.

  • Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] lythandra, last night she gave me a rather wicked little idea to help me finish off this Michael Macbeth story I've been working on. Now I've got to buckle down and actually write it, 'cos the deadline is Saturday! Edit: Oops, apparently there's another whole week in May still. Stupid calendars being full of numbers!

  • This bullet has no meaningful text!

I think there was more originally, but I got distracted by work. So, this is what you get!

Stuff can change around. I did a comic for more than 400 episodes, walked away from it for years, have been writing outrageous pony fiction (finishing fourth book this July) and I'm actively planning to jump back into making a daily comic. But I've made a point, for years, of not trying to do that, because I didn't think I had enough of a foundation, and I wasn't clear on what story I wanted to tell, where, or why.

At this point I'm getting clearer on that. I'll want it to be a comic because I like staying engaged on big huge projects, I'll want it slightly more approachable than previous stuff because I want to focus more on personal stories and less on 'personal! winkwink!' stories, and I want it a webcomic rather than say a movie because a webcomic is a place people go and a movie is a brief thing people do. After the pony stuff I'm a lot less scared of haters, too.

Getting off the ground is always so relative. Depends on your goals and intentions. To be flocked to? To be liked? To be remembered? To be a comforting place to visit each day? To be deeply alarming and shake the reader up? There are so many possibilities.

I like hearing your thoughts :)

You know I want to buy a Bowler in Louisville.
Why?
Because then I would have a Kentucky Derby. :=3

Yeah, I know I'm a bit late with that groaner. :=3

I continue to uphold...that you would be happier scripting a comic for someone else to draw (I know you've expressed the...problems of this setup, but still). Maybe just because drawing IS such a timesink, and if you're pressed for time, yah...I think writing would be a more relaxing, flexible, easygoing way to spend your hobbying.

Nonetheless, good luck!

I agree that I'd be happier with that arrangement, but I don't think it's a practical reality unless the perfect artist somehow drops into my lap.

That said, if you know any awesome (and reliable) artists looking for a writer, I'd be happy to discuss. ;)
