Theoretically at least, my kung fu schedule is twice a week, Monday and (Wednesday or Friday). So I should be going tonight ... except I unexpectedly found myself thinking, "But if I go tonight, then I won't be able to go again until next Monday, five whole days away!"

Of course, if I don't go tonight, then it will have been five days since my last class when I go on Friday. Also, there is a belt test on Saturday afternoon that I can come in and observe, which won't be exactly like having a class, but will show me what's ahead.

I just find it interesting that so bummed by the idea of a 5-day lag between classes. I remember when I was studying Wing Chun at LifeMinders, it got to the point where the five of us were doing it every day at lunchtime, and a few times we pretty much wrote off the whole afternoon from work and practiced Wing Chun until it was time to go home. (This happened in the last days of the company, when we had no clients and were all pretty much just waiting for the pink slips.)

I also thought, "But if I go to class Friday, I can make sure that SJ gets done tonight," to which the response thought was, "Who cares about SJ, when there's kung fu class?" That took me a bit by surprise!

It's evident that this is something that I have a lot of interest in, more perhaps than even I thought I did, which is exciting. :) I wonder where this will go?

I also wonder if I'll go to class tonight or Friday. I'm guessing probably tonight.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there's a snowstorm forecast for Friday. Tonight it is, then!

Hmm... other arguments:

If you go regularly on Wednesday, then if you are unexpectedly sick or have to take care of emergency business, you can go in on Friday and make up for it.

If you go in on Friday, then it spreads it out better in the week. Three- and-two-day gaps, versus one- and four-day.

Why not go on Wednesday AND Friday? :) Then do SJ on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Well, some of it is economy ... it basically boils down to $15/class. So if I go twice a week, that's $30/week, or $120/month. If I went three times a week, that would be $45/week, or $180/month.

Plus, I don't really think I'd get a lot of benefit from that third class every week. I spend the time at home practicing on my own, reviewing and locking in the stuff that I learned. If I went every other day, there'd be new stuff all the time, and I wouldn't get to practice the old stuff, so to speak.

$180 a month for 3 classes a week??? that's robbery! my favorite class was only $20 a month for as many classes a week as you could do (there was 2 1.5 hour classes monday and thursday with a 1 hour advanced class teusday) Even the most expensive classes i ever took was $80 for 3 months with 2 classes a week at university (but i really didnt like the instructor so i stoped coming about half way thru)

Unless you are very attached to this particular class/time/instructor i would look for something cheeper. I find you get a better class when you go to someone who's "day job" is something other then teaching martial arts, that way they arnt in it for the money. Im not saying that yours is, but that is an awfull lot of money for only 3 classes a week.

Well, I shopped around about a year ago, and the classes I found were all in a comparable price range, at least for Shaolin. I didn't look at the nearly-infinite number of Tae Kwon Do schools, for instance. Maybe it's just the inflated economy around here?

That's so cool that this is going so well for you! Hearing you talk about it has me interested in it. I can't see me actually *doing* it, but every time you talk about a particular move you've mastered or gotten better at, I'm curious to know what it is. (besides the name, of course, which means nothing to me...) Are there any good websites about Shaolin that you'd recommend, so I can learn a little more about it?
